According to Munos, in the 1980s, the innovation in large Pharma companies took place in the labs with the scientists free to investigate as they chose. Many acedemic innovations poured into Pharma where they then became commercialized. However, in the 1990s, as different leaders came into power, they changed the innovation process that did not suit the innovative culture that Pharma saw in teh 1980s.
